Is the IBF a bank?
The IBF is neither a bank nor a financing company and does not operate like one. We are a non-profit awarding body, established and managed by six major local commercial banks to contribute to the advancement of Banking and Finance professions through professional education and training.
 
Is the IBF an accredited institution?
Yes, we are registered with the Accreditation Council of Trinidad and Tobago.
 
Do IBF programmes include taught classes?
The IBF is an awarding body and is responsible for the administering of exams. Our offered programmes are designed for self-study and as such, do not include taught classes. However should you prefer to access taught classes to assist with your studies, please contact us for a list of our recommended tuition providers.
 
Are IBF programmes GATE-approved?
Our programmes are not GATE-approved as they were designed for self-study and as such, do not include taught classes.
 
How long does it take to complete the Diploma in Banking?
The Diploma in Banking programme can be completed in three years, provided that candidates pass each module at the first attempt. The programme comprises 14 modules and candidates may register for any number of modules but will be advised that the IBF does not recommend sitting more than three modules at a time. Exams are held in May and November of each year.
 
How long does it take to complete the Certificate for Financial Advisers Programme (Cert.FA)?
The Cert.FA Programme can be completed in 12 months, provided that candidates pass each Level at the first attempt. Exams are held in April, August and December of each year. A maximum of three years from the date of registration is allowed to complete the programme.
 
What is the procedure if I am unable to write the exams I have registered for?
DIB examination fees and Cert.FA programme fees are non-refundable. Deferrals are ONLY granted in cases of serious illness or extenuating circumstances and at the sole discretion of the IBF. Requests must be supported by written evidence and must be validated by the Institute. In such cases, a deferral fee is payable to sit a subsequent examination.
 
After I have completed my programme, when do I get my certificate?
Certificates are awarded at the annual IBF graduation ceremony, which is usually in June of the following year.
 
Does my membership entitle me to a discounted rate for workshops and seminars?
All members of the IBF are entitled to the members' rates for workshops and seminars.
